Roberto Fabelo never ceases to impress us. When you least expect it, sculptures, mermaids, cauldrons, bronze works appear, a myriad of proposals that accompany us from memory and become a magnet for its power of magnetism and involuntary force it exerts on our mind. One always returns to Fabelo in one way or another, sooner rather than later.

One of his pieces from 2010, from the series Mundo K, has recently arrived in our Estudio-Taller and it is a drawing on metal, considered one of the most admired works of the National Prize of Plastic Arts (2004).

The black background color shows a cockroach in the style of Kafka, with obvious human features in its physiognomy. It is not known for sure what the mutation was, if the animal evolved until it reached reasoning or if man bared his wild side, an untamed piece that rises above all things.

Both essences fit together, coexist without drama and without so much astonishment because in the depths of our conscience we know that the shadow of the animal remains less hidden than we think.

From a technical point of view, it is a fascinating work, made to the smallest detail. To observe it in its final state is to unravel the details, the level of perfection of the artist to master the metal, down to the smallest stroke, where there can be no margin for error because it would be starting from scratch. It is not a sketch that you can erase if necessary. Once the surface has been intervened there is no way back.

In Maxima we imagine Fabelo, in this minute, immersed in each graphic gesture when he created the work, we go back in time ten years ago when the painter, sculptor and ceramist transformed the inanimate into life, isolated from the world, because creation is an encounter with oneself and this type of revelations almost always happen in solitude. Sometimes the written word is not enough to reflect the feelings. When you have the work in front of you for a moment the mind is altered, while at other times calmness dominates the body. It is almost impossible not to see oneself represented with this figure, not to explore a rare sensation of liking, of empathy, of having the stillness that emanates from those dark and difficult to visualize eyes. It is a pensive animal that shows itself without masks or objections.

To take that form must be difficult for the man who lives proud of his perfect structure, but Fabelo invites us to take risks, to know other horizons, after all, the usual paths only offer the same answers.
