"Farther than the Light", by Douglas Perez Castro.

To bid farewell to the year, we have chosen a special work of unique and singular beauty. Douglas Perez Castro is its author. As an artist, the creator always appears on the Cuban pictorial scene with new vigor, and on this occasion his proposal is called "farther than the Light", a piece made under the vicissitudes of 2020.

A woman forming a heart with her hands is the center of the figuration. A beautiful woman with black hair and big eyes has behind her the immense sea that defines our insularity as an archipelago.

At first glance it is a painting that exudes love, serenity and peace. A slight neckline in the neck of the female, makes the heart is also white. In addition to its more traditional interpretations, white calls us to the emergence of new paths. Its ancestral meaning tells us that it represents the union of all colors and its essence is a call for harmony.

In the background of the work, a lighthouse emerges with a shape representative of Cuban history and in the distance we can see doves of two antagonistic shades: black and white, because we know well the power of the plural and the diverse to throw multiple truths of a single fact.
Likewise, a solitary star is located in an area where red and carmelite appear with yellow brushstrokes to complement a contrasting visual landscape, very Creole and with an admirable artistic finish.

In the words of its creator, Perez Castro tells us: "Fortunately, you are going through this convulsive moment in an OK way. I would like to support you with two simple ideas -No polls-. In this 2021, for Cuba, financial support cannot replace actions of simple goodness, nor can political and social actions. But there is a concrete way to make a difference, it is to prioritize focusing on #findecovid19 and the incredible #findelbloqueo."

"Cheerfully," Douglas explains, "share in your posts these two ideas, so that others will be inspired.

Stay safe.

Stay healthy.

Stay kind.

Happy 2021!
