The well-known gramophone that identifies the Grammy Awards is filled with colors this year with the work of Cuban artist Alberto Lago, recently selected as official artist for the 20th presentation of the 2019 Latin Grammy. The art of the man born in Manzanillo, in the province of Granma, will accompany posters, programs, books, tickets and other related materials, in the cape that extends before and after the awards gala, scheduled for November 14th in Las Vegas, United States.

"Alberto's art is full of radiant colors, symbols of happiness and messages of hope," said Gabriel Abaroa Jr., president/CEO of The Latin Recording Academy on the institution's website. "These elements converge to create a unique and vibrant piece that represents the music we will celebrate at the 20th Annual Latin Grammy Awards.

The artist said on the Academy website that "In a convulsive and chaotic world, we must focus on positivity and seek light. "Music offers people an escape. In creating the art for the 20th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, I wanted to create a form of escapism that sends a message of love, happiness and spirituality," a message that Lago conveys in his work, full of nuances and vivid colors with a brilliant visual that plays with aspects of psychedelia.

For the occasion, the visual artist recognized that his idea was to create "a form of escapism that sends a message of love, happiness and spirituality," according to the graduate of the Superior Institute of Art in Havana, who in his paintings generally uses fluorescent pigments that stand out under the black light, drawing symbols of happiness such as butterflies, smiling faces and flowers, as the most representative elements in his work.

Alberto Lago is an artist who has several exhibitions in Cuba, deserving of the Premio Internazionale di Pittura ISOLE Sardegna-Cuba in 2011, he is currently in an artistic residency at the Malévoz Cultural Quarter in Monthey, Switzerland, from where he plans to enjoy the presentation of the Latin Grammy in November. From Maxima Gallery-Studio we congratulate this young artist, of whom we will have more news soon in our space.
