Luis Enrique Camejo

The light is the protagonist of the paint. It is the element that composes and amends the rarefied atmospheres of his landscapes, whose images seem to have, in most cases, a special relationship with the aesthetics of American film noir. The drawing designs the anatomy of the common spaces, although sometimes the stain is emancipated and takes over the pictorial area. Camejo uses -and abuses- light and curved strokes, continuous dripping, premeditated resources to deteriorate the sharpness of the images. His cities are always convulsed, they do not incite us to rest, but invite us to have a nomadic life in the immense urban "jungle". Camejo, a faithful illustrator of man and his environment, seeks to sketch images of a city. It could be Havana or any other city, but always cosmopolitan and plural. Luis Enrique Camejo Vento was born on January 19, 1971 in the province of Pinar del Rio. He studied at the School of Art in his hometown and then at the National School of Art in Havana. He completed his studies at the Higher Institute of Art, where he was a student of Pedro Pablo Oliva, another of the artists who prestige the catalog of Maxima gallery. He has been a professor of painting at ISA since 1996.
